Tipi Jabrik’s Grom Patrol Announces Contest #1 at Halfway, Kuta Beach this coming Weekend 1- 2 May
27 April 2021, Bali – Indonesia: The ASC is excited to announce the first Tipi Jabrik’s Grom Patrol competition event of 2021, which will take place this coming weekend 1-2 May at Halfway, Kuta Beach. This will start the third year of the Grom Patrol series, with other Grom Patrol Camps and Comps to follow later in the year.
Hosted by the Halfway Kuta Boardriders with support from Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry, this weekend competition is created especially for boy and girl surfers 16 years of age and younger divided into 4 divisions; 16 and Under, 14 and Under, 12 and Under, and 10 and Under.
With so much young talent on the island, and so much pent up energy from the young surfers who because of the COVID pandemic have more than their usual amount of surf time over 2020-21, this event is sure be appreciated by both the surfers and their parents as they look to measure their surfing skills against their peers while having a fun weekend together at Kuta Beach.
Last year’s Grom Patrol competitions were not conventional events due to COVID restrictions, so the competitors were judged on their free surfing video clips instead of gathering at the beach and surfing through a normal heat draw until a final. This year the event will be a more traditional style of competition but with 6 person heats, each surfer competing in 1 round per day, but instead of only the top (50%) of the surfers advancing into the next round and the bottom ones out of the event, their position in the heat will receive a score from 1-6. At the end of two rounds, the 4 surfers with the lowest points in each division will surf a 4 person final to decide who is the champion.
