Island of Art and Ritual with Dudley Levenson

01:00pm, Fri 8th Mar 2019

Beyond being a tropical paradise, Bali has become an entangled mystery of art, culture and commerce. In this photo-presentation we scratch beyond the tourist facing veneer to understand what makes this island so unique in the world.

This visual feast, captured through Dudley Levensons lense, offers captivating beauty of the island slopes to its giant volcano, its sacred crater-lake and beyond to surfer beaches below. Enjoy meeting the many different Balinese personalities staring down the lense, discover secret temples and hidden unspoiled valleys; cast your eyes on the strange customs of the natives. This is your opportunity to be intimate with life here whilst considering the effect of our culture upon theirs. Why not delve into both its strangeness and beauty with the intimacy of a keen-eyed traveler.
This kaleidoscope of curated stories will connect you to Bali in a deeper way considering from all angles what the meaning of tradition, offering and sacrifice is from the islands perspective. Bare witness to all its wonder in the reality of village life, its full moon ceremonies and appreciate the local artisans at work.

Explore the planet through art history and spiritual tradition.

Dudley Levenson for 40 years adventure photographer, Dudley Levenson has been collecting artifacts and images from Asia, Africa, the Mediterranean and South America. He returns to Bali with new perspectives on the fusion of East and West.  Studies in anthropology led to living philosophy, exploring tribal cultures and illuminating classical civilizations.
Dudley speaks from the intersection of art history, comparative religion and exotic travel.
His investigations have included Mayan and Egyptian pyramids, prehistoric goddesses, the influence of earth worship on art and theater and encounters with shamans of the Himalayas. Hundreds of artisans and their traditions are supported through Inspired Planet.

Proceeds for this workshop go to CHARITY:
Yayasan Kryasta Guna, which funds outreach activities for "Bali ReGreen" and "AYO! Kita Bicara HIV/AIDS"
