A Low-Pressure Beach Walk for Neurodivergent Folks (Pilot Event)
A Low-Pressure Beach Walk for Neurodivergent Folks (Pilot Event)
About This Event
Hi there! If you are tired of masking, forced small talk, and the exhausting upkeep of standard social gatherings, this space is for you.
This event was created by an ADHDer, specifically for the neurodivergent (ND) community. It is a low-demand, low-pressure space where we can enjoy nature, engage our brains, and simply coexist at our own pace.
Because this is a pilot project and I want to keep the energy cozy, intimate, and safe, spots are strictly limited to a maximum of 5 participants.
👥 Who Is This For?
This walk is explicitly for anyone who identifies as part of the neurodivergent community. You are completely welcome here if you are:
-
Diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, AuDHD, or any other neurodivergence.
-
On the neuro-spectrum or identify as neurospicy.
-
Self-diagnosed or strongly suspecting/exploring your neurodivergence.
Note: You do not need to show any "proof" of diagnosis to join us. If you feel like your brain works differently and you need a low-pressure space to just exist, you belong here.
🌊 Why a Beach Walk?
Sitting face-to-face across a table can trigger major overthinking (ovt) and social anxiety. Walking side-by-side naturally drains that restless physical energy, leaving your mind calmer. It is much easier to just be when we are moving together in the same direction.
📋 The Vital Details
- Registration: Mandatory. No walk-ins allowed to keep the group small and manageable.
- The Fee: A small commitment fee is required to secure your spot and ensure accurate headcounts.
- The Route: A flat, scenic 3 km walk along the sand.
- What to Bring: Water (mandatory/crucial!), a smartphone for photos, comfortable walking shoes, and any sensory gear you need (headphones, sunglasses, hats, stim toys).
⏱️ How the Day Flows (The Schedule)
- 5:00 PM – 5:15 PM: Arrival & Check-In (Setting Your Boundaries) We meet at Mertasari Beach.
- ⏰ A Note on Time Blindness: As a fellow ADHDer, I completely understand the time blindness struggle! However, because we will start moving shortly after 5:15 PM, please do your best to arrive on time. If you are running late, no shame at all, just please send me a quick text so we know whether to wait or how you can catch up with us!
- The Colorcode: First, we will check in and choose a colored communication band to wear. This tells the group exactly how much you want to interact today:
- 🟢 Green Band: I want to talk! Feel free to strike up a conversation.
- 🟡 Yellow Band: Limited interaction. Only talk to me if we are talking about the scavenger hunt, or if I talk first.
- 🔴 Red Band: Just letting me coexist. Please let me walk in supportive silence. No talking.
- The Introduction: Depending on the group's mood, we will do a gentle introduction. Along with your name, you are invited to share: What is your biggest social hurdle right now? (e.g., over-masking, small talk anxiety, or feeling drained). If you don't feel up to speaking, you can absolutely pass. No pressure.
- 5:15 PM – 6:00 PM: The Walk & Photo Scavenger Hunt We will head out for our 3 km walk. To give our brains a gentle focus, you’ll get a low-key Photo Scavenger Hunt list (e.g., find a boat, a big tree, etc). No competition, just a tool for parallel play and focus.
- 6:00 PM: Check-Out & Departure (What We Gain) We reach our endpoint and do a quick safety check-out to make sure everyone is accounted for. Before we head home, we will do a quick reflection: What did you gain from this event today? (e.g., a sense of calm, a cool photo, a moment of unmasked connection, or just getting out of the house).Once we finish, the "Irish Exit" is fully supported—you can return your band, give a wave, and head out without any awkward, lingering goodbyes.
🛑 Rules of Engagement (Our Safe Space)
- No Forced Small Talk: You are completely allowed to walk in total silence. Parallel walking is a love language here. Respect the color of everyone's bands!
- Masking Optional: Be your authentic self. Wear your noise-canceling headphones, look at the sand, or info-dump if you find a willing listener with a green band.
💬 About the Organizer & Growing Better
Hi, I am Nand. After recently being diagnosed with ADHD, I realized how much we need spaces where we don't have to perform or mask just to be around people. This walk is the exact space I wish existed, and I can't wait to share it with you.
A Confession: Because this is my very first pilot project and I am the one conducting it, there is a high probability that I will be nervous too! We can be nervous together, and there is absolutely zero pressure for any of us to be perfect.
A Note on Feedback: Because I want this community to grow and get better, I would love to ask for your feedback afterward if you are willing to give it. If you choose to share your thoughts. No pressure at all, but your insights will help us build better future events!
❓ FAQ
-
What if I need to leave early? You can slip away at any point during the walk. Just send me a quick text so I know you are safe!
-
Do I have to show my scavenger hunt photos? Nope! It’s just a tool to give your brain a task if you want it. Completely for your own enjoyment.
-
I really want to come, but I am having financial difficulties. Can I still join? Absolutely. Please do not let the fee stop you from coming. Reach out to me directly by clicking "Contact the Organizer" or messaging me, and we will get you registered. Your financial privacy will be completely respected.
-
Will there be photos taken at the event? Only if you want to! We deeply respect your privacy. The photo scavenger hunt is done individually on your own phone. At the very end, we may offer to take a group photo purely as a private memento for the attendees to remember the day. No photos from this event will ever be posted publicly or on social media without unanimous, explicit permission. If you do not want to be photographed at all, your boundary will be fully respected.
