!Alpaca Feeding Experience Safety Instructions!
• Always approach alpacas from the front. Never approach them from behind, as this can startle them and cause them to kick.
• Stand to the side of the alpaca when feeding them. Do not stand directly in front of their mouths.
• Offer food to alpacas from your open palm. Do not feed them food from your hand, as this could cause them to bite.
• Be gentle when feeding alpacas. Do not force food into their mouths.
• If an alpaca becomes agitated or uncomfortable, move away slowly and calmly.
• Do not feed alpacas any food or drinks that are not specifically approved by their caretakers.
• Children should always be supervised by an adult when feeding alpacas.
Why is it important not to stand behind alpacas?
Alpacas are prey animals, and their natural instinct is to flee from danger. If they feel threatened or startled, they may kick out with their powerful hind legs. Standing behind an alpaca can block its escape route and make it feel trapped, which could cause it to kick.
By following these safety instructions, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for yourself and the alpacas.
