(*) Although not a religion, shamanism is a deeply spiritual practice. Shamanism is a technique used all over the planet to interact with the world and its energies on a fundamental and personal level, giving the shamanic practitioner a deep, rich, direct experience of the divine. Outside of Mongolia, where shamans are officially licensed (there may be other places like this, but I don't know of them), there is no central authority and no doctrine; shamanic practice is all about one's personal relationship with the spiritual realms, the Earth (Pachamama) and the Helping Spirits.

 

There do seem to be universal beliefs that are part of most of the shamanism-like practices of the world ('saman' is a Tungus word; we use 'shamanism' to try to describe and explain similar practices elsewhere in the world):
