This condensed intensive is designed for beginners, intermediates and curious rhythm lovers who want more than just “trying a drum.”
You’ll receive cultural context, technical foundations, and a full immersion into one traditional West African rhythm — all in one focused 3-hour session.

We begin with stories about the origins of the Djembe and an introduction to proper hand technique.
Then we explore dexterity exercises to strengthen coordination, awaken the non-dominant hand, and sharpen your rhythmic sense.

From there, we dive into the heart of the practice — learning and playing one traditional rhythm in its authentic ensemble spirit.

About the Teacher

Catur Hari Wijaya is a world musician and percussionist based in Bali. Since discovering the Djembe in 2005, he has studied with master drummers including Mady Keita, Boubacar Gaye, Mohammed Bangoura, M’bemba Bangoura and Bassidi Koné. In 2018, he traveled to Mali to deepen his experience in the traditional context of West African drumming.

He is passionate about honoring ancient musical lineages while making them accessible to modern audiences.
