DJING 101: LEARN THE ART OF THE MIX

Have you ever wanted to learn how to DJ but didn’t know where to begin?

Introduction to DJing with EXUBERANCE is a fun, practical and beginner-friendly workshop designed for anyone curious about the art of DJing. Together, we’ll take some of the mystery out of what actually happens behind the decks and explore the foundations of building and mixing a DJ set.

What we’ll explore:

• The basic DJ setup and how the equipment works
• Understanding BPM, beats, bars and musical phrasing
• Beatmatching and syncing tracks
• Creating smooth transitions
• Understanding song structure
• Selecting music and building a journey
• Harmonic mixing and an introduction to the Camelot Wheel
• Understanding energy and flow
• Reading and responding to a dancefloor
• How to begin practising and building your first DJ set

This is a hands-on introductory workshop, and no previous DJing or musical experience is required.

The workshop will be facilitated by Gabriel Melchizedek, aka EXUBERANCE. Gabriel has been DJing since the age of 18 and has performed internationally in clubs and events across Australia and overseas. More recently, through his EXUBERANCE project, he has performed at BaliSpirit Festival and Friday Night Ecstatic Dance at The Yoga Barn in Ubud.

Gabriel is also an electronic music producer with releases through international record labels. His track “House Party in Ubud” reached #18 on the Traxsource Jackin House chart.

The intention of the workshop is to make DJing approachable, playful and inspiring while giving participants enough practical understanding to begin exploring their own journey behind the decks.
