About the Teacher

Catur Hari Wijaya is a dynamic world musician, multi-instrumentalist, and drum teacher based in Ubud. Though he plays over 20 instruments, including strings and flutes, percussion became his primary focus after falling in love with the Djembe in 2005.

Catur has studied traditional music with great masters such as Mady Keita, Boubacar Gaye, Mohammed Bangoura, M’bemba Bangoura, and Bassidi Koné. In 2018, he traveled to Mali, West Africa, to deepen his musical knowledge and experience the traditional context of drumming in the motherland of the Djembe.

Passionate about uniting ancient musical heritages, Catur regularly composes and performs works that weave together traditions from West Africa, India, and Indonesia. He performs at major festivals across Indonesia and is deeply involved in Bali’s music scene as both a teacher and performer.
