Echoes Across the Sea celebrates the artistic dialogue between Japan and Europe through music for solo piano and string orchestra.

Presented by ARC Sudirman, the concert features acclaimed Japanese pianist Toru Oyama alongside the chamber orchestra Jakarta Sinfonietta, conducted by Iswargia R. Sudarno. The program moves between cinematic melodies, classical elegance and the expressive power of the string orchestra.

Toru Oyama had been awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Letters (English Literature) from Keio University in Tokyo, a Master of Music in Advanced Performance, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance from the Royal College of Music, London,

This August, he is set to perform audience favourites by two of Japan’s most celebrated composers, including Joe Hisaishi’s Summer and One Summer’s Day, and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence. The program also features Mozart’s graceful and intimate Piano Concerto in E-flat Major, K. 449, and William Walton’s richly dramatic Sonata for Strings.

Together, these works create a musical journey across cultures, traditions and generations, revealing how familiar melodies and timeless classical forms can speak to one another across the sea.
