Kamēnawa Sacred Amazonian Song Circle: Learning Medicine Songs

03:00pm, Fri 27th Feb 2026 - 05:00pm, Fri 27th Feb 2026

This sacred song circle is an invitation into the living musical traditions of the Amazon, guided by indigenous artists and cultural carriers Paka and Rurá Kamēnawa.

In Amazonian cultures, songs are not performances. They are prayers, teachings, and bridges between the human world, the forest, and the unseen realms. In this workshop, participants will be gently guided into learning and experiencing these songs as they are traditionally held, with respect, simplicity, and humility.

The circle will include moments of listening, call and response singing, rhythm, and storytelling. Paka and Rurá will share the context of the songs, their origins, and the way music is used within their culture to support healing, connection, and remembrance. The focus is not on perfection or performance, but on presence and sincere participation.

This is a cultural learning space, not a ceremony. No medicines are involved. Participants are invited to come with an open heart, a willingness to listen, and a respect for indigenous traditions.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Paka and Rurá Kamēnawa are indigenous artists, cultural carriers, and musicians from the Amazon rainforest of Brazil. As a couple, they share sacred songs passed down through ancestral lineages, honoring the living relationship between people, forest, and spirit. Paka carries the role of ceremonial leader and guardian of traditional knowledge, while Rurá is known for her powerful voice, musical expression, and cultural stewardship. Together, they travel internationally to share Amazonian music as prayer and cultural transmission, always rooted in humility, respect, and the preservation of indigenous ways of life.
