Listening Session: Irama Nusantara

05:00pm, Sun 15th Nov 2026

Irama Nusantara is a non-profit foundation dedicated to digitally archiving Indonesian popular music. In the spirit of its motto, “Lagu Baru dari Masa Lalu” (new songs from the past), the foundation has spent the last thirteen years making music recorded across the archipelago in the mid-to-late 20th century—traditional, rock, pop, folk, jazz, reggae, etc.—available to the public online.

David Tarigan and Gerry Apriryan from Irama Nusantara are deeply committed to this cause and have spent countless hours finding, digitising, and restoring this music, often from long-out-of-print shellac, vinyl, and cassette copies of crucial releases sourced from private collections.

In this seated Listening Session, David and Gerry will share a carefully curated selection of Indonesian songs from the late 1950s to the early 1980s, played through Klymax’s world-class speakers from a mixture of vinyl and lossless digital files. Presented to a 60-person audience of close listeners who may have never heard these treasures before, the music will be followed by a live Q&A.

Be there to experience the future arriving from the past.
