Wixárika Cultural Evening with Abuela Marakame Micaela TKaima 

High in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico, the Wixárika people have kept their ceremonies, prayers and sacred art alive for generations. On 21 November, a grandmother of that tradition joins you in Ubud.

Abuela Micaela TKaima was born in the Wixárika community of Tateikie. From the age of eleven she has carried traditional responsibility in the ceremonial centres of her people, keeping the sacred corn and walking the pilgrimages to the holy sites of Wixárika lands. Today she is one of the very few women Marakame, the spiritual and ceremonial leaders of her nation, and she keeps the tradition strong, especially on behalf of women's work.

This evening is your chance to sit with her. Abuela Micaela shares stories of the sacred sites and offers prayer, and special guests share songs through the evening. The fire is lit and the market is open from the moment you arrive. You can listen, ask questions and feel the warmth of a living Indigenous culture, up close.

No experience needed. If you feel curious, come. For many people this evening is the first meeting with Abuela Micaela, ahead of a season of community ceremonies she holds in Bali until 5 December.
